Seniors Vs Lyndale

Monbulk came into Saturday's game against Lyndale, knowing it was a must win. The league was so even, that dropping any points against the bottom side would have been a nightmare. Lyndale knew a win for them, would take them up to mid-table. The game was scrappy in the beginning, with players struggling to hold their feet in the slippery conditions. Both teams could only create half chances in the first 10 minutes, until a great corner swung in by the impressive John Kennedy was headed in by Paul Bras for his first goal for Monbulk after about 15 minutes. The Monbulk faithful didn't have to wait long for the next goal, as Daine Adams swung a corner in from the opposite side which the goalkeeper could only pat into his own goal. Monbulk were now well on top, and totally dominating a very poor Lyndale side with. Brett Tronconi was working hard in the middle, while Chrissy Cullimore was very solid in an unfamiliar centre half position. Nick Hurlston controlled the backline after a week out injured, and Lyndale posed no real threat. Out wide Weasel was having his best game for the club, and young Keegan Rand was serviceable on the wing. Monbulk kept pressing with Daine going close on a couple more occasions, and the ever dangerous Brechan Adams was giving his markers a bath. Some excellent work by Weasel down the right, and a fantastic challenge gave him the opportunity to knock a pin-point pass into Wellsy for a 3nil half time lead.

The second half proved much of the same. Monbulk were all over their opponents, and was pressing for more goals. The Lyndale keeper was having a nightmare, and his confidence was done no favours when a shot from Wellsy was cruelly deflected in the goal for his second, and Monbulk's 4th of the afternoon. Monbulk kept pressing, and with Lyndale providing no threat up the other end, more players went forward looking for goals. A great through ball by Paul Bras put Brechan one on one, and the league's leading scorer was cool in slotting it into the bottom corner for number 5. Shortly after, he was replaced by Jeremy after a slight knock ended his afternoon, but his job was done. More chances went begging for Monbulk as Wellsy was winning everything in the air, and the boys in the middle kept giving good service to the front men. With 10 minutes to go, the excellent Daine Adams was replaced by super-sub Choc. It proved a master stroke by coach Noodles as within minutes of him coming on, Choc met a brilliant cross from Wellsy, and with a diving header he sent the Monbulk fans into a frenzy bringing up number 6. Lyndale had a couple of late chances, but Stubbsy was up to the task with a brilliant fingertip save for one, and Nick Hurlston cleared off the line for another. All in all Monbulk proved to be a class above their opponents, and hopefully have started a run of wins to take them back to the top 2. Croydon away next week, is now the only focus.
